Mesut Ozil was expected to resume training on Tuesday

The Gunners secured their first win of Unai Emery’s tenure against West Ham but Saturday’s victory was largely overshadowed by the mystery and speculation which accompanied Ozil’s absence. Arsenal claimed the Germany World Cup winner was ruled out as a result of illness but reports from Brazil claimed the former Real Madrid star had been involved in a heated disagreement with his new manager about his role in the team. Emery dismissed those claims as false in his post-match press conference having previously given Ozil his unequivocal public backing and claimed Arsenal to be his family.
